[character]: Kojima Mizuiro
[character history / background]:
By anyone else's standards, Kojima Mizuiro was a pretty lucky guy, all things considered. No, he didn't have the most attentive mother around, and his relationship with his father was even more nonexistent, but neither had ever been exactly unkind to Mizuiro. Just distant. But in their stead they left him with nothing to be desired, materially. Mizuiro probably had twice the spending money of all of his peers, money which he squandered on friends, particularly those of the female persuasion. He never wanted for food, for shelter, for luxuries.
It was the basics, family and friends, which Mizuiro was missing in his life.
Until he entered middle school, at any rate. Kurosaki Ichigo and Asano Keigo weren't exactly the picture perfect friends that you read about in books, but they had everything Mizuiro could have desired. Loyalty. A willingness to talk, even if Ichigo in particular could be fairly taciturn. A fierce type of protectiveness between them, even if Keigo was rather cowardly on the outside, that spoke of emotion, that spoke of investing in the bond between people and placing worth into the relationship itself. Things that Mizuiro had never been very familiar with, not during family dinners, and not despite all his efforts to be kind and generous to the fairer sex.
After meeting Ichigo and Keigo, Mizuiro began to enjoy life a lot more.
Some things began to turn foul, however. Being fairly perceptive, it didn't take Mizuiro long to realize that one of his closest friends had gotten himself tangled up in fairly dangerous ongoings. The random, crazy stories that spewed from people's mouths. The damage left behind that just couldn't have been the result of a pro-wrestler's truck driving into the wall (what was so significant about the fact that it was a pro-wrestler's truck, anyway?). The slight murkiness of Mizuiro's own memories with events he was intimately involved in--wasn't there a transfer student not so long ago? And through it all, the people who changed.
Ichigo, who was absent for weeks. Orihime, whose smile had dulled. Ishida, who seemed even more pensive than before. Mizuiro was pretty sure Tatsuki and Keigo noticed the changes too, reality slipping through their fingers like sand, a reality that Mizuiro had worked so hard to construct. There was none of it to return to back home, nothing but a lock-step way of life where every step he took met with carefully lined padding, and so Mizuiro decided to move beyond that nest of comfort.
It helped that Keigo and Tatsuki had decided to do the very same thing.
Watching Ichigo and hearing his words while hiding in that underground cavern had been something else. To have all their fears confirmed, then amplified by the truth, fear shooting down their spines as a slowly increasing resolve to help their friend burned all the while. Mizuiro distinctly remembered looking into a black abyss, watching Ichigo's brightly colored hair vanishing into the distance, until a voice called out to them. Almost playfully, at first.
The words, they hurt.
'He thinks that just by acting a bit cold... he can suddenly cut off his relationship to you all.'
Familiar. And yet, this time, it was something Mizuiro was willing to fight against.
You can't throw him away so easily, Kurosaki Ichigo.
[character abilities]:
Any abilities which Mizuiro may or may not sport are mostly dormant, at best. Unlike Inoue Orihime or Yasutora Sado, Mizuiro does not currently have any awakened powers that allow him to fight spiritually. However, certain events lead one to the conclusion that he is at least spiritally aware.
That aside, the only ability Mizuiro really has, much to the chagrin of his best friend Asano Keigo, is an uncanny way with ladies. He is quick to endear himself to the fairer sex through his cute, underaged appearance, as well as his gentlemanly behavior.
[character personality]:
He's a sweetheart, a gentleman, a firm believer in chivalry-- now in pocket size!
Kojima Mizuiro has an angelic face, mannerisms that leave nothing to be desired, and perhaps most importantly, cares about your well-being, as well as that of your mother's and her newest toy poodle. More than willing to endear himself to the new transfer student in the class, or to help an old lady down the street, on the surface Mizuiro only lacks two things: the grades and the height. At the same time, these distinct weaknesses make Mizuiro far more approachable to the general populace, popular with the opposite sex.
But beneath the surface, Mizuiro is manipulative, good at putting the pieces together in a way that one wouldn't expect of such a poor student. Well, perhaps manipulative is a bit generous, when Mizurio is compared to the true baddies, such as Aizen, but he has those puppy eyes and he knows how to use them. Skills acquired through being born into an upper-class family, a sector of society riddled with politics.
As cheesy as it may sound, however, the key difference is that he uses these powers for good, uses them in ways that would prove most beneficial to his friends, to those he holds dear. Even Keigo? Having too many girls around him would probably either result in him dying of excessive bleeding from nosebleeds--the guy's a gamer, of course he'd get overexcited--or, eventually, with an unplanned pregnancy on his hands.
Asano Keigo should never be allowed to reproduce. Mizuiro's doing this for the greater good, can't you see?
Similarly with Ichigo, at first glance it would appear that Mizuiro is prone to keeping a distance from Ichigo, allowing him to deal with affairs privately and as he sees fit. However, there are advantages to staying at a distance, watching from afar, never arousing suspicion. He's been watching more closely than you might think, Ichigo. How else would he have found the Shoten?
Everything is defined by a careful calculus. You will find very little need for vigilantism in Mizuiro's moral fiber, but the need to protect others, as with everyone else in Bleach, is very much there.
